Sanskrit/Indian name: Peelu, Pilu, Meswak, Miswak, Arak
Young stems of 3-5 mm are used as toothbrushes. A toothstick is also said to relieve toothache and gum disease, and the leaves are used as a mouthwash and for tooth and gum problems.
Fruit of this plant with or without seeds is said to contain 1.7-1.8 % sugars when ripe. Fermented drinks are also made from the fruit.
